How to Market Yourself Right Now
As the world starts to reopen, dance studios remain among the last places to come back. But dance companies and productions will need to start hiring dancers several months in advance of their projects' start date. How will they do this? Online auditions.
Now is the perfect time to level up your online presence so casting directors, company directors, and choreographers can easily find you and see what you do best. Here are three ways to market yourself right now.
Build a website A website can be a great tool for marketing yourself. Be sure to include a short bio, resume, photos/videos of your work, and a way to get in touch with you. Some user-friendly websites I’d recommend are Wix, Squarespace, and Wordpress. Make a dance reel In-person auditions are not happening right now, so most dancers will be getting jobs through virtual submissions and online auditions. Your dance reel should show what you do best, including any special skills. It should be overlaid with a single audio track so it doesn’t sound choppy. Create or update your resume
Your resume should only be one page long, and should reflect the projects you’ve been a part of that align with the types of projects that you are auditioning for. For example, if you are auditioning for musical theatre, make sure your theatre credits are more prominent than your dance company credits.
